The Sunshine Coast runs on sunshine, salt air and visitors, and all three are hard on refrigeration. A fridge on a beachfront cafe counter or in a holiday-season kiosk works harder than one in a cool city kitchen. We're based in Brisbane, in the same time zone and the same climate, and this is what we'd tell anyone on the coast who's buying commercial refrigeration.
Humidity and glass doors
Summer on the coast is humid, and humidity is what fogs a glass door. When warm, damp air meets cold glass, moisture forms on it and customers can't see the drinks or the cakes inside. Double-glazed or heated glass reduces it, and so does keeping the fridge out of direct sun and away from steam and the front door. Humid air makes the fridge itself work harder as well. Makers rate every model for a maximum room temperature, and across our range those ratings run from 25°C up to 43°C. For an open-fronted shop, a market stall or a kitchen without air-conditioning, look at our tropical rated fridges, which are built for hot, humid rooms.
Salt air and the condenser
Close to the beach, salt air and sand find their way into everything, including the condenser coil that lets a fridge get rid of its heat. A clogged or corroded condenser makes the compressor run longer and wear sooner. Clean it on the schedule the maker sets, leave the ventilation gap they ask for, and check the spec sheet for a stainless steel finish if the unit will sit near an open front.
Ready for the holiday rush
School holidays and summer weekends bring the crowds, and the fridges that sell cold drinks and ice cream do the heavy lifting. A few places to start:
- Upright drinks fridges put cold drinks where customers can reach them.
- Ice cream and gelato displays show off the tubs.
- Ice makers keep up with iced coffees, smoothies and drinks. Their output is measured at set conditions, often 21°C air and 10°C water, so a hot room means less ice than the headline figure.
- Countertop display fridges sell grab-and-go from a small counter.
If you're replacing a fridge before the season, order with time to spare: supplier backlogs can cause delays, and the busy months are when you can least afford to wait.
Freezers for the coast
Freezers work just as hard in the heat. Upright freezers suit kitchen storage, chest freezers hold bulk stock such as bait, ice and frozen goods, under bench freezers keep chips and frozen prep on the line, and display freezers sell ice cream and bagged ice to customers. The same rule applies to all of them: check the maximum room temperature the maker rates the unit for, and match it to the room it will stand in.
Delivery to the Sunshine Coast
After your order is paid and processed, it's usually dispatched within 1 to 3 business days, and delivery to the Sunshine Coast then usually takes 2 to 7 business days. We've delivered to six postcodes across the Sunshine Coast and the Gympie region so far. Standard delivery is kerbside to a commercial address, tracked and signed for. A large fridge to a home, a set delivery time or carrying it inside all need a premium delivery quote, so ask before you order. Heading down to Brisbane anyway? Smaller items can be collected from our warehouse at Seventeen Mile Rocks by arrangement. Our Brisbane page has more about buying from us in Queensland.

Questions and answers
Sunshine Coast orders: questions and answers
How long does delivery to the Sunshine Coast take?
Usually 1 to 3 business days to dispatch once your order is paid and processed, then about 2 to 7 business days to the Sunshine Coast. These are estimates: supplier backlogs can cause delays.
Can I collect from you instead?
Smaller items can be collected from our Brisbane warehouse at Seventeen Mile Rocks by arrangement, and collection may be offered at checkout. Larger fridges usually ship straight from the supplier's warehouse. Email us before you order and we'll check.
Why does my glass door fridge fog up?
Warm, humid air meets the cold glass and the moisture condenses on it. Double-glazed or heated glass reduces it, and so does keeping the fridge out of direct sun, away from steam and back from the front door.
Do I need a tropical rated fridge on the coast?
In an air-conditioned room, often not. Open to the street, on a market stall or near cooking equipment, a tropical rated model gives you headroom. Compare the maximum room temperature on the spec sheet with your hottest day.
Do you deliver to a home address?
Yes, but large items to a home need a premium delivery quote, and some suppliers (SKOPE, for example) don't deliver to residential addresses at all. Ask us before you order.
