Melbourne takes its coffee, its food and its bars seriously, and the fridges behind them work hard. Victoria is the third state we deliver to most, with 26 postcodes so far, and most of them are in greater Melbourne. Here's what's worth knowing before you buy commercial refrigeration for a Melbourne business.

Behind the coffee machine

A busy cafe goes through a lot of milk, and the barista needs it within arm's reach. An under bench fridge beside the machine keeps it cold without a walk to the back. Measure the height under your bench and the depth to the wall, then add the maker's ventilation gap; the product page shows the size and the power wherever the maker lists them. On the counter, a countertop display fridge sells the slices and cold drinks, and a cake display fridge does the same for a full cabinet of cakes.

Weather that changes its mind

Melbourne is known for four seasons in a day. For most of the year a fridge has an easy time, but a hot northerly can push the temperature past 40°C in summer, and a kitchen beside the ovens is hotter again. Each model carries the maker's maximum room temperature, and across our range those ratings run from 25°C up to 43°C. Choose for your hottest day, not your average one, and look at our tropical rated fridges if the room has no air-conditioning. Keep the condenser clean, too: lint and grease on the coil make the compressor work harder on exactly the days you need it most.

Brands with a Melbourne base

Several of the suppliers behind our brands are in Melbourne. Williams Refrigeration has its Australian headquarters at Dandenong South. Electrolux Professional Australia is at Scoresby, and Moffat, which looks after Scotsman ice makers and Friginox blast chillers, has its head office at Mulgrave. FED, the supplier of Thermaster, FED-X and Bonvue, has a Victorian branch at Truganina in the west, and Coast Distributors, the importer for Follett, Grant and Lassele, has a Melbourne office at Thomastown. SKIPIO Australia has a Melbourne service line.

Larger items usually travel straight from the supplier's warehouse, and which one depends on the stock on the day. On many FED and Bromic products, the product page's delivery panel can show whether stock is held in Melbourne. Warranty and service go through each brand's supplier, in writing: our warranty page lists who to contact for every brand we sell.

Bars, laneways and loading zones

A laneway bar has no room to waste. Back bar coolers fit under the counter, glass chillers keep the glasses cold, and keg chillers look after the draught beer. Getting a fridge into a laneway takes some planning, though. Our standard delivery stops at the kerb outside a commercial address: the driver unloads at your loading bay or front door, and doesn't carry it inside or down stairs. If your venue is up a lane, down a flight of stairs or behind a narrow door, ask us before you order and we'll quote a premium delivery.

Delivery to Melbourne and regional Victoria

Paid and processed orders usually leave within 1 to 3 business days. Delivery to metro Melbourne then usually takes 2 to 5 business days, and regional Victoria usually 5 to 14. We've delivered from Box Hill, Dandenong, Lilydale and Sunbury out to Geelong, Bendigo, Maryborough, Sale and Wonthaggi. Every delivery is tracked and needs a signature, so have someone there to sign and to check the unit before the driver leaves: damage has to be reported within 24 hours.

One thing about calling us: our team works Brisbane hours, and Queensland has no daylight saving, so from October to April we're an hour behind Melbourne. Our AI assistant is the quickest first stop either way, and it will tell you it's an AI.

How long does delivery to Melbourne take?

Usually 1 to 3 business days to dispatch once paid and processed, then about 2 to 5 business days to metro Melbourne and 5 to 14 to regional Victoria. These are estimates: supplier backlogs can cause delays.

Can I collect from a supplier's warehouse in Melbourne?

What size fridge fits under my cafe bench?

Measure the height under the bench top, the depth to the wall and the width of the space, then compare them with the product page and add the maker's ventilation gap. Our AI assistant can help you read a spec sheet.

Who handles warranty on a Williams fridge?

Williams Refrigeration handles it, by phone, and claims must be logged and authorised by Williams before any repair work. Our warranty page has the details for Williams and every other brand we sell.
