Built for 40°C days

A fridge moves heat out of the cabinet and into the room. The hotter the room, the harder it works, and every model is rated by its maker for a maximum room temperature. A fridge rated for a 32°C room is outside its rating in a 40°C kitchen without air-conditioning: it runs longer, uses more power and may not hold its temperature. If yours lives in a hot back room, a market stall or next to the ovens, choose a higher rating, or start with our tropical rated fridges. Tropical rating is about heat, not only humidity, and Adelaide's dry heat counts.

Give it room to breathe, too. Leave the ventilation gap the maker asks for, keep the condenser clean and keep the unit out of the direct afternoon sun.

Wine, cheese and the cellar door
